Rainbow Snakehead (Channa bleheri)
This small, brightly coloured snakehead is one of the most popular species in the hobby, known for its vivid orange to red flanks with subtle blue or teal highlights, particularly around the head and gills, along with distinctive bright yellow lips.
One of the more peaceful snakehead species, it rarely shows serious aggression towards its own kind, and can be kept with other fish too large to be eaten.
Unlike many tropical Channa species, the Rainbow Snakehead does best with a cooler temperature range and benefits from a distinct seasonal drop in temperature, so should not be kept permanently at high tropical temperatures.
We recommend a well-planted tank with plenty of hiding places, a gap at the surface so the fish can access air, and a heavy, tight-fitting lid, as snakeheads are accomplished jumpers and escape artists.
