Wild Betta Mulyadii “Api Api” Pair (Betta mulyadii)

This wild betta is sold under the trade name “Api Api”, with the red form being the one most commonly seen. Formerly listed as Betta sp. “Api Api”, it is a tiny, intensely red betta with blue eyes and white trim on the dorsal and caudal fins, supplied here as a pair. It is collected from peat swamp and soft blackwater habitats in Sumatra, Indonesia.

This species needs soft, acidic, tannin-stained water and a calm, dimly lit environment, and wild-caught fish can take time to settle. They are generally peaceful compared to Betta splendens, though males can become territorial when establishing a breeding territory. We recommend a densely planted or botanical-style aquarium with leaf litter and driftwood, gentle filtration, and a tight-fitting lid, as with all bettas.
