Betta Rubra “Aceh” Pair (Betta rubra)
This small wild betta comes from the lowland peat swamps and blackwater streams of northern Sumatra, Indonesia, and “Aceh” is the locality form. The name means “red”. Mature males have 4-8 broad dark bars along the body, while females and juveniles have a dark stripe along the side. Retailers describe the colouring as brilliant red with subtle metallic blue accents. It is a dwarf mouthbrooding species, and the male carries the eggs. This listing is for a male and female pair.
This species needs soft, acidic, tannin-stained water and a calm, dimly lit setup. It is not a community fish. We recommend a species-only tank with leaf litter, driftwood and floating plants, a gentle sponge filter, and a tight-fitting lid, as with all bettas. Wild-caught fish are sensitive to sudden changes in pH, hardness or temperature.
Please Note Wild fish often look subdued when they first arrive, and their full colouration will develop once they have settled into a stable, well-planted aquarium. The fish in our video have just been moved for filming, so they are not showing their full colour. Please message us if you would like to see further videos.
