Betta Iaspis “Jade” Pair (Betta iaspis)
Known in the hobby as the Jade Betta, this tiny wild species belongs to the Betta coccina group and was described in 2025. It is known from a single forest peat swamp in Jambi, Sumatra, Indonesia, where it survives the dry season by hiding in moist mud beneath dead leaves. Males have a dark blackish body with a reddish-brown head, blue iridescence in the eye, and red fins with bluish margins. The anal fin is blackish with a few red patches. Females are similar but less intensely coloured. This listing is for a male and female pair.
This is a true blackwater species and is not suited to general community conditions. Males are intolerant of one another, so we recommend keeping them as a pair, or a trio with extra females, in a dedicated, dimly lit species tank. We recommend leaf litter, driftwood and floating plants, very gentle or minimal filtration, and a tight-fitting lid, as with all bettas.
Please Note Wild fish often look subdued when they first arrive, and their full colouration will develop once they have settled into a stable, well-planted aquarium. The fish in our video have just been moved for filming, so they are not showing their full colour. Please message us if you would like to see further videos.
